Thanksgiving Giving

Our chapter once again has taken to helping our local Food Bank with supplying Thanksgiving dinners to those in need. This year we chose to do two families who have loved ones in Hospice. We have put together a lovely basket of all the fixings for each family and we hope that it will help them to make this Thanksgiving a special day for each. Our blessings and prayers go out to them.

Our chapter has grown to seventeen women and each and every one has a big heart. With each of us bringing forward something they can share not only amongst each other, there is still room to share with others. We hope as we continue to grow, we will also be able to grow within our community and do more where we are needed.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I pray that as we sit down to dinner with our families, we will remember to be thankful for what we have and be grateful for what we can give to others.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Aloha Fun!! Chick Style

This is Gail.. Isn't she a  cutie all dressed in her Luau attire? She was our hostess with the mostest.. seriously she really went all  out to provide our chapter with a Super Luau at her home yesterday.  She decorated her farm yard so well one would think they were in an Island paradise. She met her guests with a welcoming Lei and these cute thongs for us to decorate as we liked with flowers & sequins..
She had a great Tiki Bar set up with fancy glasses & those tiny drink umbrellas, More flowers and a pool of  floating candles ( I didn't get a pix of that however.)

Here is a guest enjoying  some of the great snack food Gail & her daughter prepared along with beverages BBQ chicken & Scrumptious pork.. Each  chick also contributed a menu item allowing us to contribute our own Luau item.
Tropical fruit  salad, Coconut shrimp, Sticky rice, Pork  and chicken,  CornChowder, Cakes with fruit and many other yummy treats. Some of the gals spent the night in Gail's motor home and her "Glamper". I was unable to stay but had a fabulous evening of fun.  I wonder what time those gals went to bed? Laughing  and playing silly games..  This was a Chick Night to remember!

More Potluck pictures

We have so much fun together farmgirls Laughing and sharing love of the Mary Jane Sisterhood.
Gail made sure  the Mother hen was dressed in a Mexican theme with the sombreroand hot chili pepper beaded nexklace.  Thanks Gail I appreciated it.
And take a good look at the previous posted shots of the dessert... A farm girl helping.

Mexican Potluck

The luncheon potluck, put on by Robin and Julie, turned out without a hitch. We could'nt have asked for better weather or company. The food was plentiful and delicious. There was chicken enchiladas, taquitos, corn salad, salsas, chicken pa sole, tacos, Spanish rice, nachos and so much more. We had a raspberry lemonaid, ice tea, and wine  for drinks and a homemade shortcake with strawberries, blackberries and homemade whipped cream on top.

We all talked about what we would like to do in the near future as a group and for our community. A bake sale was discussed to benefit a community garden for the children of Klamath Falls. We will also be planning a Harvest Fair sometime in late September or early October.

Margie brought along her tatting materials and showed some of the gals how to tat. This looks simple but complicated all at the same time. It is an old craft that has been around many years and one that is well worth learning. She also showed her talent with a picnic set she sewed out of used levi and materials. Brilliant and beautiful.  It even comes in its own carryall that she made from used levi.
We did our Secret Sister exchanges, revealed who they were and chose new ones for the next few months. This is just a little something we can do to get to know each other a little more, sometimes we might just send a card to let them know they are being thought of. Or we may send a small gift we know they would enjoy.
As our group continues to grow and we hear the ideas and crafts that each farmgirl shares with us, we all get very excited about the many things we can do together and for our community.  I must say we have become friends who are now farmgirl 'sisters'.

Cherry Jam Class

Our class for learning how to make cherry jam was a grand success. After four plus hours of pitting about 18 pounds of cherries and putting up 35 jars of jam, we had to say it was a lesson well learned.
Some of the cherry jam we made with Agave which tasted just as good as real sugar. I'm not sure how MaryGail will remove the stains from her tablecloth as juices went in many places and pits were flying off in various directions, but fun and laughter and working together is what farmgirls are all about.

Thank you MaryGail for the use of your home and teaching us to make jam. Now if I could just figure out how to remove cherry stains from my hands, that would be another lesson learned.

May Day Celebration

May Day is a fun celebration which, when we were younger meant dancing around the May pole with pretty ribbons. Today it isn't celebrated much except to some of those who wish to put a smile on others faces by leaving a bouquet of flowers just for them.

Andrea thought it would be nice to make a little basket out of old vegetable cans and filling them with flowers. So we met at her house and had fun decorating cans which she was going to deliver Sat morning to a local retirement center. She was to place them at each table setting and was to sneak out before the residents got up to go in for breakfast.

Did'nt they turn out pretty? We hope this put a smile on each of the residents faces and started their day off well.

A simple jester of kindness can be so fulfilling. Thanks to all who participated.  Happy May Day!

Welcome to Susan's farm

This was a very nice day  for our chick meeting Susan is one of our newest members and she invited us to visit her farm and for a lunch meeting. We met her fiber goats, rabbits  & llamas.  What a treat to see her studio where she teaches fiber dyeing, weaving & spinning.   As you can see the chicks loved the outting. We are truely blessed to have such talented and crafty farmgirls in our chapter. Susan is just one of the 10 charming gals in our growing chapter. Thanks Susan for having us over for lunch & farm visit.

The Spirit of the Farm girl

Today, I felt the true "Spirit of being a farm girl" as our small chapter met at Gail's for a lunch of home made chili and cornbread.
Not long ago our chapter of 3 members was struggling to maintain a membership because sadly two of our members chose to leave our chapter. I say not long ago because it was last week that we were joined by two other very interested gals who saw our charming chicks calling card posted and called to inquire as to what we did. April Johnson and Marygail Baker joined us as our two newest members making us a chapter of 5.
Happy to have a growing group, we planned a laundry soap making party, and a sharing of our stories, and things we hoped to accomplish as a chapter.. Quickly the word spread and in the "spirit of the farmgirls" we were blessed to have 3 more farm girls come to our meeting. Gail's table was full and overflowing as we chatted and laughed and shared our meal together.
My heart swells with pride and beats a new song tonight as we are now a group of 8! We welcome Robin Kendall, Julie Maness and Joanne Johnson with open arms. A Dream coming true for us. Each of us has our own story to tell of why we are Farmgirls and how it is a 'condition of the heart'. We feel like real sisters at only one meeting all sharing a common bond.. We have made plans to give back to our community by Crocheting, Knitting or Sewing Chemo Caps for local Cancer patients. The charming chicks will meet November 20th at my house for lunch again. A time for friendships to grow and the true Spirit of farmgirls Getting things done....as we plan for other projects and just farmgirls having fun.
Proud to be A Mother Hen.

Girls Day Shopping

Several of us gals went out to the thrift stores and antique shops in town and had a great time looking at the many things out there. Some were looking for specific things while some were just picking up what struck their fancy. What fun it was to go with everyone and see each of our interests in how we would like to decorate our home or make something out of our finds.
Cheryl was the one to find some great big items for her home. Gail was out drooling over a hutch while Faith snatched up antique brooches and Marygail found an antique item for her kitchen. All in all we had a blast laughing at some of the things we found and were'nt sure what they were so we would guess and giggle. After a bit of shopping we sat down to lunch and then back to hit a few more stores. After six hours and some rain everyone headed home to enjoy their days discoveries.
We all hope to spend more days like this enjoying one anothers company and just plain having fun.
